Carla Zampatti turns 50

This year marks 50 years of the iconic Carla Zampatti fashion label.   After being denied a pay rise from her  £13 a week job designing blouses for a wholesale fashion house in 1964, she launched her own label a year later and the rest is fashion history.  The fashion house  celebrated yesterday with the 2015 Spring/Summer showcase in Sydney at the Opera House.   A beautiful, elegant and gorgeous collection.   Well played Ms Zampatti.

He for She

You may have already seen this (as it is has garnered lots of media/social media attention) but I encourage you to watch it if you haven't already. Emma Watson delivered a brilliant speech a few days ago on feminism and a new UN campaign that has been launched to promote gender equality.  She asks both men and women to take action. “The more I have spoken about feminism, the more I have realised that fighting for women’s rights has too often become synonymous with man-hating…. If there is one thing I know for certain, it is that this has to stop. For the record, feminism, by definition, is the belief that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities. It is the theory of the political, economic and social equality of the sexes. Both men and women should feel free to be sensitive. Both men and women should feel free to be strong. It is time that we all see gender as a spectrum instead of two sets of opposing ideals. We should stop defining each other by what w...

Tory Burch tells her story

I love reading about inspiring women in the business world. Last night, I read a couple of great articles from one of my favourite publications, Fast Company , about Tory Burch  and how she has built her brand and her business.  Read the articles here .  In just under 10 years she has built a global lifestyle brand which will pass $1bn in revenue this year.   It is reported that the secret to her success is that her business is such a personal reflection of who she is.  I don't own anything from Tory Burch (yet) but I have visited a couple of her stores.  It really does feel like you are visiting somebody's beautiful home when you step into one of her stores.    Another secret is being authentic and accessible.   As the article notes,   "Bur ch “is all about the ‘and’,” says creative director Honor Brodie, who oversees the Tory Blog and  social media . “She’s a tomboy and she’s feminine. She’s an entrepreneur and a phil...

Rose Byrne x Oroton

Oroton , the classic luxury Australian fashion label has announced  Rose Byrne  as the new face of their label. I love her and her style and even remember watching her in the early days on Aussie soap, Echo Point  during my high school days.  Watch the behind the scenes video of the Oroton shoot here .

73 Questions and Preserve with Blake Lively

I know there are some haters out there but I like Blake Lively .  She just seems nice, cool and someone you could be friends with.  I don't know if it was scripted or rehearsed beforehand but I liked her even more after seeing the latest 73 Questions video from Vogue.  Watch it here . As a follow up from my recent  post , Blake has also recently launched her own lifestyle site,  Preserve .   Part blog and part online shop it will highlight and curate (everything seems 'curated' these days!) American artisans, stories and products.   I haven't had a chance to have a proper look yet so my verdict is still out.

Girl Crush: Kerry Washington

Someone who I have been seeing on the red carpet a lot lately and loving is Kerry Washington .  She has been around for years but is now making it big due to her tv show Scandal (great show btw) and her role in this year's Oscar nominated Tarantino flick Django Unchained. I think she has been nailing it on the red carpet.  I have noticed she normally goes for very feminine pieces but there is always a bit of edge or point of difference to it which many could not pull off.  I am excited to see what she has planned for the Oscars! All images from Red Carpet Fashion Awards (such a good blog and one of my daily reads)

Girl Crush: Hanneli Mustaparta

Former model, photographer and blogger.  I have been reading her blog for a while now and have a big crush on her style and her life.   Check out the cute and fun Louis Vuitton ad she was in recently:

So damn excited...

One of my favourite books (The Great Gatsby) set during one of my favourite eras brought to life by the wonderful Baz Luhrmann... Carey Mulligan's outfits look phenomenal.   Check out the trailer.   So. Excited. Cannot. Wait.

Time 100 Fashion Icons

Time recently released their list of 100 Fashion Icons  setting out 100 of the most influential icons in the fashion world since 1923 (when Time Magazine was born).  Some interesting additions in there including the Olsen twins in the designers category which I don't agree with... don't get me wrong they have done well for themselves but I think some other designers should've made the list instead... But I do love how many of the people who made it to the Muses list are not actually that recent or modern - clearly showing how style is timeless and transcends eras.  Some of my personal favourites who made it to the muses list are Jackie Kennedy, Audrey Hepburn and Jane Birkin.  Elegant + Simple... you can't keep your eyes off them...

Miss Anne...

I have been a fan of hers since the Princess Diaries and now she is starring in the film remake of one of my fave books, One Day  (I definitely recommend the book!).  I am a bit skeptical after seeing the trailer, but perhaps she will prove me wrong?
