Music memories

I have the office to myself this afternoon so I can ditch the headphones and am turning up the music. I used to be really up to date with music, read music blogs and keep up with new songs, artists, go to gigs.. but this has sort of faded out in the last few years. These days I seem to rely a lot on Spotify and their playlists and recommendations which is great for busy people! But this afternoon I am feeling a bit nostalgic so reminiscing and playing some songs played at our wedding back in 2010 which is bringing back some beautiful memories.   Walking down the aisle:  First dance:

Today I need to concentrate and write a briefing paper for my boss' boss.  Being in an open plan office it means putting on my headphones and turning on Spotify to listen to their Afternoon Acoustic playlist.  It's my go-to playlist and features this sweet little tune from John Mayer...

Sam Smith: Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas

A beautiful beautiful cover of my favourite Christmas song by Mr Sam Smith

Wish I Was Here...

It's been a while since I have written a music post.  Life gets in the way, we get busy and I had forgotten how wonderful it is to make new music discoveries and listen to a beautiful song for the very first time... Zach Braff has a new movie coming out.  Similar to his debut film, Garden State (which had an awesome soundtrack ) Wish I Was Here boasts an equally impressive lineup for its soundtrack. A few songs have been released on NPR for listening.  Do yourself a favour and have a listen... Cat Power and ColdPlay: listen here Bon Iver: listen here The Shins: listen here

let's stay together...

This tune popped up in my iTunes library this afternoon while I was singing and dancing with the little miss around the kitchen to try and distract her and calm her down.  Such an oldie but a goodie - I love this song and it seems she does too!

2012

So it's time for the obligatory New Year's Eve post and a wrap up of 2012... It's been quite the year! The Mr and I saw in the new year last year with our good friends in Brisbane - this year we are staying in and I will be lucky if I can stay awake til midnight! :) 2012 saw us holidaying in Bali, Thailand, Vietnam, Hong Kong and going home to Brisbane.  On the career front, I was lucky enough to head back to Tokyo and Hong Kong and be involved in lots of challenging work and survive what has been a very tumultuous year for the financial services industry.  We saw friends get engaged, married, move cities.  We welcomed lots of new bambinos into our circle of friends.  It was also the year that the most gorgeous little nephew and the most incredible little girl was born. I will leave you and 2012 with this pretty little tune from the Paper Kites (thanks to Hieu for the music discovery).  I hope 2013 is good and kind to you all xx

Holiday playlist

Source: via Phuong on Pinterest I love this time of year - holiday parties, family time, Christmas lights and everyone seems that little bit more chipper... The folks at Kinfolk magazine (a beautifully styled mag celebrating simple entertaining and small gatherings) have put together a fab little holiday playlist to get you in the mood. Have a listen here

christmas tree day!

Soundtrack for tree decorating with the little one :)

can we talk?

It's day 3 of my maternity leave and I have to admit I don't know if I am very good at this lady of leisure thing... I can see myself getting bored, I know I should just be enjoying the time off and resting etc but I have never been one to sit still! One of the perks though is getting to go to the hairdresser and running errands etc during the weekday without having to battle the weekend crowds.  Today I visited my lovely hairdresser and got a much needed cut, scalp massage and blowout - they always play old school tunes at my hairdresser and today they played this little ditty.... Aaah the memories - brings me back to high school days... I wonder what happened to him?

early morning....

The little miss has been making it difficult for her mama to sleep lately, I think she just wants to get out and meet us all! In any case, being up super early means I delightfully discovered that Rage is shown here on the Australia Network early on a Sunday.  It brings me back to weekend mornings in Brisbane where we used to have Rage or Video Hits on the tele in the background most weekends. Some music discoveries this morning: Birdy's cover of Bon Iver's 'Skinny Love'. Little Talks Guy Sebastian with Lupe Fiasco (go Guy!)

I will wait... Mumford & Sons

A bit obsessed with this song today...

Good Time...

A catchy little tune from Owl City and Carly Rae Jepsen to start your Saturday morning and the weekend!

Somebody to love me on a Sunday

Sunday night and the Mr and I are cooking dinner along to Sean Parker's Hipster International playlist on  Spotify ...  It's a fab playlist and features some really cool songs including one of my faves - Mark Ronson's 'Somebody to Love Me'.   Tonight we aren't agreeing on what to eat so we are making different things but one thing we can agree on is the tunes!  :)

The Way You Look Tonight...

Glee + Vogue closet + Sarah Jessica Parker = absolutely charming!

Love Love Love - Avalanche City

The cutest little tune to cheer up your Sunday afternoon with the cutest penguins!

Pitch Perfect

I love a good teen movie and I also love a good dance off or sing off in a movie.   Can't wait for this one - especially with the old school 90s tunes!

Charlotte Gainsbourg - Paradisco

A chilled and fun Saturday arvo tune...

sunday morning...

Our very close friends Fox and AM got married yesterday in Ireland.  The Mr is there and from all reports a spectacular day and he is still out on the dance floor! :) Unfortunately the baby bear and I didn't make the trip so after a little lie in, we are spending  our sunday morning watching the E channel  with a cup of rose tea, fresh fruit and a toasted cream cheese bagel for breakfast.   It's not Ireland but not too shabby for a sunday morning! Some internet finds from this week that I have been reading: gorgeous styling inspired by a trip to Morocco - I am loving all the hats and hair accessories The LIBOR affair - for someone working in the industry it's been fascinating to see how this is unfolding in the media.  The Economist article here A lovely cruisy new tune co-written by Pharrell:  Sweet Life by Frank Ocean.  Listen to it here   Gorgeous pretty florals from  Zimmermann .   Happy S...
